“Gee, the lack of humility before nature that's being displayed here, uh... staggers me.”
- — Ian Malcolm, Jurassic Park
Scientism
/ˌsaɪənˈtɪzm/ (n.)
An exaggerated trust — faith, dare we say it — in the efficacy of the scientific method, and more generally, in science, to explain all areas of human intellectual enquiry. An absence of the causal scepticism on which the scientific method is based. A lack of humility before nature.
