The retired court of appeal judge who held in a judgment in 1998 that “The Smiths were a very successful pop group”. As far as we know the issue has not been subsequently considered so, as a matter of stare decisis (or at least obiter dicta, therefore at the least persuasive throughout the commonwealth) it is the law of the land.

Also gave the leading, pronoun-mangling judgment in the leading stupid banker case of Lloyds Bank v Independent Insurance.
