Now, it is highly likely they *won't* be amazing either — they’re reading your crappy [[LinkedIn]] post, after all, so that should give you some sense of it — but a feature of mediocrity is gullibility and wilful self-delusion, so they'll probably believe you anyway, and even if they don’t, most people still like to be told they’re amazing, however implausible or disingenuous it may obviously is to tell them that.

Well, you would inspire them by showing them how amazing you were, if you were amazing, but — let's face facts here — statistically speaking, it is almost certain you're not, so rather than aggravating them with your mediocrity, it’s better to make them think they’re amazing instead.

Now, it is highly likely they won’t be any more amazing than you are — they’re reading your crappy LinkedIn post, after all, so that should give you some sense of it — but a feature of this kind of guileless mediocrity is gullibility and wilful self-delusion, so they’ll probably believe you.

Even if they don’t, most people still like to be told they’re amazing, however implausible or disingenuous it obviously is, so go right ahead and blow smoke up their ass.

In summary: blow smoke up other people’s ass, not your own.
