It is said that Children’s author Monica Dickens, on a book tour in Australia in 1964 promoting The Room Upstairs, was patiently signing copies of her book in a Sydney bookshop when approached by a woman shopper who handed her the book and said, “Emma Chisit.”

Dickens dutifully inscribed, “To Emma Chisit, from Monica Dickens” on the flyleaf and brightly handed the book back.

The woman was aghast. “No,” she muttered, crossly, “I said, ‘how much is it?’”
