Eymology corner: often widely misspelled buttocratic — product of a confusion with the medico’s Hippocratic Oath — named for the Greek doctor, Hippocrates — buttocractic, with a “c”, in fact comes from buttocraxis (βυτοκρακτική, sympolised by the Greek lowercase omega ω) the ancient theological disposition of being elsewhere when blame is attributed.
