There’s a super-cool rockabilly scene on the continent. Hotspots: Stockholm, France, Finland, and Camden. Sweden’s The Domestic Bumblebees, Frankfurt’s Ray Collin’s Hot Club and Little Victor —I’m not sure where he’s from, truth be told, but he’s a dude. The coolest dude of them all is our own Camden Cat, Daniel Jeanrenaud.

When we (used to!) travel late on the Northern Line you’d sometimes see The Cat laying out his Sun Sessions repertoire like a streetwise guardian angel. It was a bit of rare luck when he picked your carriage — but nothing like the luck of being in the Camden Blues Kitchen when he walked in: leopardskin drape jacket, an f-hole guitar & rockabilly band in tow, ready to tear up with an after-hours set.

Now tell me You Carry On isn’t the most righteous slice of rock you ever heard. You should hear it live: The Cat blows the doors off.

One day, soon, maybe, The Cat will blow some doors off again.
