Now do I want to be “that guy” — obviously yes, I do — and point out that if ISDA’s crack drafting squad™ has restricted itself to just bitcoin and ethereum — which apparently it has — and both of which are “cryptocurrencies” and not “crypto assets” as such, then the sad fact of the matter is that this nascent definitions booklet is really rather badly misnamed.
We refer keen readers to the JC’s many impassioned treatises on the nature of cash money. Cash is not, in the twilight, purblind world the JC inhabits, “property” at all in the sense it can be held, but not owned; she who holds it can therefore utter it free of any competing claim in the world. But rather a token of value that leaves behind it only indebtedness.
“Assets” are not like that.
