In securities and derivatives brokerage, it is a place where willing partipants can buy and sell their financial instruments. This might be a regulated market, a stock exchange, a futures exchange, a multilateral trading facility (these days called an organised trading facility, a dark pool and so on.
A place where two can tango, so to speak.
In MiFID 2 a trading venue is one of a regulated market, an organised trading facility or a multilateral trading facility — that is, a venue that is regulated and authorised under MiFID 2.
