A supercilious Latinism that means “only with hindsight” or “after the fact”. Still, as Latinisms go it is benign and in fact cheers both speaker and the listener up because, even if one can't speak Latin, it's still bleeding obvious what it means, so everyone gets to feel the warm glow of multi-lingual literacy, however unwarranted that feeling may ultimately be.
