A handsome statement for fatalists, hard determinists, and other lacklustre types who tend to cast their hopes for the future into the laps of the beneficent gods, it strikes us as rather less satisfactory for those hard-charging, ambitious folk who tend to paint their self portraits on LinkedIn’s heroic canvas.

There is a buried passive there: “meant”. Meant by whom? Your best you? Your mum? The eternal stars in which our futures are engraved? Illinois’ law enforcement community?
