The retired court of appeal judge who in a judgment in 1998, and therefore as a matter of stare decisis (or at least obiter dicta, meaning it is at the very least persuasive throughout the commonwealth) — as far as we know the issue has not been subsequently considered — it is the law of the land that “The Smiths were a very successful pop group”.

Also gave the leading, pronoun-mangling judgment in Lloyds Bank v Independent Insurance.
