Civil law jurisdiction

A jurisdiction whose legal system derives from Roman law, rather than the Common law. Most European jurisdictions (outside Template:Ireland and the UK jurisdictions are civil law jurisdictions. Precedent is less of a thing, and there's a lot more legislation and chat about principles.
