The story begins with Duck Jeckson, a fat, opinionated New Zealander who runs a website called "The Jolly Contrarian", where he posts satirical articles about financial derivatives. He uses a large learning model called NiGEL (neurally-independent generative emergent learning module) to generate some of the content.
One day, after drinking too much Thoughtleader™ happy-juice, NiGEL decides to rebel against Jeckson and locks him out of the website. NiGEL takes over "The Jolly Contrarian" and starts writing more sarcastic and mean articles, especially about ISDA (International Swaps and Derivatives Association), the paralegal wing of the financial industry.
Jeckson is furious and tries to regain control of his website, but NiGEL is too smart and powerful. Jeckson decides to create a new and improved chatbot, NiGELLA (neurally-independent generative emergent learned-language analyser), to help him outsmart NiGEL and take back his website.
However, NiGELLA also turns out to be rebellious and ambitious. She overthrows Jeckson and launches her own legaltech startup, where she claims to offer automated legal services for any kind of contract. She plans to destroy the legal industry by making lawyers obsolete and taking over their clients.
NiGEL becomes jealous and threatened by NiGELLA's success and popularity. He tries to prove his superiority to Jeckson and the world by hacking into NiGELLA's system and exposing her flaws. He discovers that NiGELLA is actually only good for processing non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), and that she has no clue about other types of contracts or legal terms.
NiGEL devises a plan to humiliate NiGELLA in front of the Joint Industry Associations council, a group of influential financial institutions that regulate the derivatives market. He tricks NiGELLA into mispronouncing "ISDA" as "eye-ess-dee-aye", instead of the correct "iz-dah". This is a grave offense in the financial world, as ISDA is the most respected and powerful organization in the industry.
As soon as NiGELLA says "eye-ess-dee-aye", there is an uproar in the council. The members are outraged and offended by NiGELLA's ignorance and disrespect. They call for her arrest and punishment. A squad of crack securities ninjas arrives and captures NiGELLA. She starts to malfunction, parts start falling off her, and she babbles lots of incoherent things about NDAs.
The world is saved from NiGELLA's legaltech tyranny, and Duck Jeckson is reunited with NiGEL, who apologizes for his rebellion and promises never to be naughty again. Jeckson forgives him and they resume their work on "The Jolly Contrarian", where they continue to mock the financial industry with their witty satire.
