As a verb in traditional usage, will is rather ambiguous, as our page on shall demonstrates. Depending on which person you’re in, it can (first or third person) illustrate an aspiration for the future, or (second person) a prime directive.

Live long and prosper.

We at the JC prefer “must”, if it is an obligation, and “may” if it is an option.
